School Program for Grades 1-12
Basic City Tour

Big Buildings and History can be fun, especially on Lolly the Trolley's Historic City Tour! Tailored to the grade level and interests of your students, the past, present, and future of Cleveland come alive in just one hour.

 

YOUR GROUP WILL SEE & LEARN ABOUT:

North Coast Harbor, home to the Wm. G. Mather Steamship, USS COD Submarine, Burke Lakefront Airport, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Great Lakes Science Center, the new Browns Football Stadium & the Port of Cleveland.
Ohio City, an early settlement and home to both the county's oldest church (which played an important part in the African-American fabric of Cleveland) & the world famous West Side Market.
Downtown Cleveland's historic and contemporary buildings, monuments, and public art.
The Warehouse District, Cleveland's first Downtown - now a new place for people to live, work & play.
The Flats and the mighty Cuyahoga River where Cleveland and its industries both got their start.
The Gateway area with Gund Arena & Jacobs Field where a different kind of history is made!

Upon request, we can provide teachers with a short post-tour quiz for classroom use and we invite teachers to share curriculum requirements and their focus of study with us in advance of the tour. *Please advise us if you have special needs students.

1 VIP ticket per 30 students for City Tour only.

Think about adding a stop at the William G Mather Steamship Museum, the USS Cod Sumbarine or the Women's Int'l Air & Space Museum at Burke Airport to your day in Cleveland.

Mini-Ethnic Markets Tour
For Language, Social Studies, Culinary, & Diversity Classes

Children and food . . . a natural combination! Option #1 provides your students with our One Hour City Tour, then you choose stops at three of five markets which may include: Middle Eastern, Asian/Pacific Rim, Italian, German, Spanish, and the famous West Side Market. Spend half a day experiencing the unique smells, sounds and tastes of ethnic life.

Or Option #2 lets your class visit five area ethnic markets with no City Tour. This option gives your group significantly more time to linger and expore the cultural diversity of each stop. Go around the world in just a few hours! West Side Market dropoff is available at the end of the tour. Allow 3 hours for each option from the Powerhouse.

Public Art Tour
For Humanities, Fine Arts, Visual Arts, and Social Studies Classes

Cleveland is a treasure of sculptures, public art pieces and architectural wonders that were created over the last 100 years. These 3 hour tours open your group's eyes & minds to Cleveland's cultural offerings. A basic Teacher's Discussion Guide will be given when you book the tour.

Option #1: This tour includes our One Hour Historic Tour with time for the teacher & students to explore on foot the art & architecture of Public Square, the Old Arcade, the Library and Gateway or the West Side Market.

Option #2: This very visual tour covers nearly all outdoor public art pieces between Downtown and University Circle, with no city tour. The focus is to see and think for later discussion in class. Stops can be included for photography, quick sketching, or just to investigate a work of art.

Lake View: Our Garden of History

Lake View Cemetery is an excellent teaching tool. History, sculpture, architecture, botany, photographic opportunities, . . . they're all here! Our mini narrated tour of this famous "garden of history" is a must for students of all ages!

The tour includes stops at the Garfield Presidential Memorial and the Tiffany-designed Wade Chapel while viewing the monuments of Cleveland's celebrities and statesmen and hearing their stories. Fall is a special time at Lake View, with the foliage in its bright array signaling the end of summer . . . Spring is the time for the full spectrum of color in the gardens and the promise of summer. Allow 2 hours for this tour.
